Associate Theatre Program

Associate Membership Criteria

The New Jersey Theatre Alliance's Associate Theatre Program is intended for theatres planning to become fully professional, utilizing a standard Actors' Equity Contract, within three years of membership.

Associates are considered for membership periodically throughout the year.
Membership is effective on a fiscal year basis: July 1-June 30. Annual membership dues, effective 7/1/98, are $250.00.

Basic Criteria for Membership
  • Professional Orientation and Standards
  • Established Board of Directors
  • Located in New Jersey
  • A minimum of one-year production history
  • A minimum of one full-time professional director or manager
  • Pending or permanent not-for-profit 501(c) 3 status
  • Must be a new or emerging theatre with an intention of moving towards a standard Equity Contract within nine years.
  • Theatres must participate in the Associate Theatre Program for a minimum of one year before being considered for full NJTA membership. A standard Equity contract, for the purposes of this program, include LORT, LOA, SPT, COST, CORST or TYA. A Guest Artist or Special Appearance contract is not considered to be a standard Equity contract
  • Associates will be required to reapply for associate membership or apply for senior membership after each three-year period
  • A commitment to the mission and spirit of the New Jersey Theatre Alliance.

  • Listing in outreach resource guide, Class Act, Learning Through the Arts, published annually and distributed free of charge to over 3,500 educators and PTA's throughout the state
  • Invitations to and minutes from all roundtables
  • Participation in online Job Board
  • Participation in annual combined auditions and University Showcase
  • Participation in other Theatre Alliance programming, including Family Week at the Theatre
  • Eligible for one complimentary ticket to each NJTA member theatre production, subject to availability
  • Eligible to participate in mentoring and consultant programs geared towards specific needs of the Associate theatre
  • One representative from each Associate Member is invited to attend NJTA Board
  • Meetings, held three times per year
